Introduction

As part of its Italian roll out programme, JD Sports appointed ISG as design & build contractor for the opening of a new store in Arese, within one of the biggest shopping malls in Europe. Based on JD Sports’ concept for their European stores, ISG developed the architectural and MEP design and fitted out the overall sales area, including fitting rooms, the back of house areas and staff office.

The project

At the time of working on the project, the Arese Shopping Centre was still under construction. ISG had to carefully plan deliveries by liaising with the landlord and other tenants. Not only was the shopping centre incomplete, but it was also built to achieve a LEED Gold rating. This meant that ISG had to implement numerous procedures to ensure the store was LEED Gold compliant.

The main fit out works involved new flooring, ceiling, dry lining, plasterboard partitions, the construction of the shopfront and the installation of final furniture. ISG also installed all mechanical, electrical and special systems, and co-ordinated all direct suppliers. After meticulously adapting the store’s design to fit JD’s concept and adhering to the shopping centre’s restrictions, the team completed and handed over the store in April 2016 in time for the grand opening of Arese Shopping Centre - one of the largest shopping centres in Europe.

Within the framework relationship with the UK leading sportswear retailer, ISG completed the fit out of another six JD Sports stores across the country; three projects located in Northern Italy, two in the south and one in the outskirts of Rome.

“I especially want to thank the excellent group of professionals who have worked very hard, and we have delivered the first pieces of what I’m sure will be an excellent path to be followed in a process of continuous improvement and learning together in Italy.”
